Durban - Businesswoman and socialite Shauwn Mkhize, also known as MaMkhize, was forced to abandon her luxurious vehicle and walk in the rain for a good 2km before she could find an Uber.
On Saturday, MaMkhize and her sister Nozipho Mkhize-Ngubo had made a brief appearance at the wedding of their cousin Dedani Mkhize and his wife Sithokozile Mthembu in Willowfontein, Pietermaritzburg.
Dedani is the eldest son of former health minister and ANC NEC member Zweli Mkhize.
With hundreds of vehicles parked on the roadside and many more blocking the road, making it impossible for the Glamour Queen to drive out, MaMkhize and her sister had to leave the car behind and walked a distance in the wet weather before she could access an Uber which could not gain access to Mkhize’s home due to the traffic.
Struggling to exit where she had parked, MaMkhize who was without her bodyguards, was heard pleading with those on the road to allow her to drive off, but this fell on deaf ears as those who had blocked the road were at the marquee out off the rain.
“If I cannot drive out, can someone at least just lend me their car keys and I will leave my car behind with them because I have to go,” she appealed.
A Mkhize relative told the publication that attempts to move the cars off the road failed after the ceremony was briefly disrupted in an effort to ask people to move their cars to allow access to exiting vehicles.
Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday, MaMkhize brushed off the matter and said despite the bad weather, what mattered the most was the celebration of her little brother’s wedding which was a success.
“The celebration of our little brother and his beautiful wife who is now our sister was everything we planned it to be and hoped for. We would like to thank everyone from Amakhosi, Izinsizwa, Izintombi, political leaders, friends, and family who came out in numbers to witness the joining of the Mkhize and Mthembu families,” said MaMkhize.
