Durban - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s cabinet reshuffle has been praised by the KwaZulu-Natal ANC Women’s League provincial task team (ANCWL PTT).

The reconfiguration of the provincial executive council took place on Thursday.

The ANCWL PTT said it commended the premier for her boldness in utilising this opportunity to bring about tangible change to the gender make-up of the executive.

“In an executive of 10, women make up six (positions), while men are four. It is the first time in the history of the provincial executive that women MECs are in the majority. Through this bold act, Dube-Ncube has dismissed the untrue but widely held notion that when women leaders make it to the higher echelons of leadership they kick away the ladder, prohibiting more women to ascend.”

The task team added that the appointment of Mbali Frazer as Education MEC and Amanda Bani-Mapena as Sport, Arts and Culture MEC as well as the other new additions to the executive council were welcomed.

“We have no doubt that both Cdes Frazer and Bani-Mapena will hit the ground running and bring about tangible change to the portfolios where they have been deployed.

“We urge all the members of the executive council, and society at large, to rally behind the leadership of Dube-Ncube and work together to change the lives of our people for the better.”
