Durban – Msunduzi Municipality warned that waste must be disposed of at the landfill site after KFC food and old stock were discovered on Woodhouse Road bridge in Pietermaritzburg.

In a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, the city said piles of KFC food and old stock were discovered on the road by Woodhouse Bridge.

“The offender will face legal action,” said the municipality.

The municipality has taken a tough stance against illegal dumping and is clamping down on those who are contravening the by-laws.

“The by-laws are clear; all waste must be disposed of at the landfill site. So if you witness an offender and can take a picture please do not hesitate to report,” it said.

Commenting on the Facebook post a resident said: “Not only disgusting and bad for the environment but hungry people might try to eat that old food and get very sick. Shame on them!”

Another resident said: “Disgusting. Hope they’re going to check Otto Bluff Road where medical waste is lying around for kids to get injured with.”

A man questioned why the food was not given away before it had expired while another said: “Fine them. Shame them. Arrest them. Get rid of them. Tired of them.”
