Pinetown water meter thief caught red handed cutting copper piping

The Pinetown homeowner in the Ashley area heard banging noises and alerted Blue Security which resulted in the apprehension of a water meter thief.

Durban - A thief was caught red handed by a Blue Security armed response officer while attempting to steal a water meter in the Ashley area of Pinetown on Wednesday.

Blue Security said an armed response officer responded to a call from a client who heard a banging noise on his property.

“A notorious water meter and copper pipe theft suspect in the Pinetown area ran out of luck when our Armed Response Officer caught him red-handed at a home in Ashley,” said the security company.

He was nabbed while cutting the meter and had copper piping in his possession, it said

The security company said the suspect was also responsible for another broken water meter in the vicinity.

“The suspect was handed over to Pinetown SAPS for further investigation related to other copper theft cases,” said the company.

Blue Security congratulated everyone involved in the successful apprehension of the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Kloof, a housebreaking suspect on the run was apprehended by a member of the Blue Security Community Crime Prevention Unit on Wednesday.

“Our CCPU member was patrolling Hillcrest Park and the taxi rank area, searching for suspects and stolen items, when he managed to spot and apprehend the suspect. The suspect was taken to Pinetown SAPS, where he was wanted in connection with the housebreaking,” said the security company.
