The four men arrested for the murder of Luke Edwards were patients at Tetelestai Recovery Centre, the rehabilitation facility where the victim was receiving care.
Edwards, 32, was reported to have died on April 9 when his body was found allegedly on a property neighbouring the Tetelestai Recovery Centre, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Winklespruit.
Wesley Rogers, the lawyer representing Tetelestai Recovery Centre’s managing director, Donovan de Klerk, said De Klerk was a state witness and was not at liberty to discuss the case.
"Those that were arrested are patients of Tetelestai and are not staff. We have video footage that is time stamped about two hours after Mr Edwards absconded from Tetelestai where he is seen at the entrance to the neighbouring retirement home. He looked perfectly fine and with no injuries.
"It is concerning that police have not obtained the video footage. A lot is being said on social media. There are concerns about the arrests. We do hope that the right people are arrested," said Rogers.
On Monday, the men aged between 24 and 29 appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court and were remanded in custody.
Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority said the case was adjourned to Friday, July 4 for a formal bail application.
In a statement released by the centre on Friday, De Klerk said that on April 9, Edwards was found dead, lying in a big pool of blood on the retirement home property.
"Circumstances surrounding his death, including details regarding his injuries, are the subject of an active SAPS investigation, and we will not speculate on any cause or timeline,” said De Klerk.
