We are back at it again, the Grammys are back and those who worked hard all year get the nod, a trophy and some kind of ovation. Some attend the prestigious event purely to show off their latest fashion acquisition. Then comes the performances which are always better year in, year out.

So assuming that you don’t know yet, who from the top of your head do you think had the most nominations?

It is none other than Mr I’mma Let You Finish– Kanye West. Yes, the 14-time Grammy winner may be a social oddball but he is a monster in the studio. He leads all contenders like he was a dashing Usain Bolt with an inc- redible seven nominations. Imagine the horror if someone had to interrupt his speeches seven times.

It will be like a Taylor Swift revenge, only seven-fold. Though West has the most nominations, he apparently wasn’t happy that his album My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy was not selected as album of the year.

The nod went to Adele, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. You feel like saying get over it Kanye, at least they are still inviting you to these award ceremonies after your antics. Right after ’Ye is Lil Wayne, Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars at five nominations each. Lil Wayne has been recovering from the career blunder of dropping the rock album Rebirth, which was not received the way he hoped.

So it makes sense when his nominations are not from that dark moment.

Instead he gets recognised for his efforts on the hit song Look At Me Now, his collaboration with Kelly Row- land on Motivation, the participation in DJ Khaled’s I’m On One and his latest album Tha Carter IV.

Adele? Who doesn’t know her by now? She clinched the newcomer award in 2009 and now she is back with her sophomore album that did way better than her first. Rolling In The Deep is nominated in the Record Of The Year category and the entire album is up for the Album Of The Year award.

An interesting category will be the Newcomer Of The Year award where J Cole and Nicki Minaj are also contenders. Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn’t Nicki Minaj been out for at least three years now? For how long does one remain a new artist?

Though the nominations and winners may be a big deal, most people are interested in the performances on the night. Over the years Chris Brown has been a very creative performer who at times defies gravity.

Brown will be part of the 2012 line -up performers and he will joined by Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne and Foo Fighters among others.

• The 54th Grammy Awards take place on Sunday at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and Channel O will beam them live at 3am on Monday, February 13 with a repeat showing at 8.30pm on Vuzu.
