Nine-time Grammy award winner John Legend is back to perform in yet another sold-out show, at the Sandton Convention Centre, tomorrow.

In commemoration of Women’s Day, Legend will perform alongside Idols judge Unathi Msengana and popular house crew MiCasa.

“Whenever I’m here you treat me like I’m at home, so I find my way back over and over again,” said Legend.

There’s space for only 4 000 seated fans at the show, making it an intimate occasion. The singer feels that SA fans “get” his music, which is why he keeps coming back.

“Once we have released my next album we will make sure we come back for a lot more shows all over South Africa and not just in Joburg. I always feel so welcome here. It’s just a question of scheduling,” he said.

Msengana revealed that the American singer was to take part in an upcoming Idols episode. “We are trying to maximise [what] we can get from Mr Legend. We knew how important it would be for the kids to see someone they idolise share the stage with them. We had to move mountains and valleys to make sure he’d be here and bless us with his presence.”

Legend also expressed interest in being on the show. “I was on a show called Duets in the US and so I know what it means to be a judge or to participate in this kind of show. I am excited to be part of it and I know Idols is popular here,” he said.

Legend said his new album, Love in the Future, would be released in December.

“I worked with Kanye West, who was executive producer. I have had the same people I have worked with in all my albums and we have all grown up and so this album should show that growth that we have individually gone through throughout the years,” he said. - The Star
