The SABC is certainly keeping its promise when it comes to local content.

After the decision to play 90% local music on its radio stations, the national broadcaster has now shifted its focus to television.

Under COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng's leadership, content will now be 80% local – giving local actors, directors and the like the chance to find an audience for their creativity.

Hopefully, the call to #OpenTheIndustry, started earlier this year, will be heard after this new initiative.

For now, same familiar faces appear to have scored new gigs. At a SABC press conference today, it was announced that Khanyi Mbau and Phat Joe will now host the weekend version of SABC3’s Expresso, while Anele Mdoda will host a new show called Real Talk, on the same channel. Perhaps Mdoda is filling the talk show void left by Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu after her 3Talk show was canned.

Meanwhile, the ever popular Friends Like These gameshow gets a new host in the madcap form of Trevor Gumbi, while the beautiful Lorna Maseko hosts Top Chef, also on SABC3.

SABC3 also unveiled its new logo:
