South African DJs and producers Magz and Shezy are turning sound into a declaration of identity with their new Afrotech single, “Ngangoba Yini”.

Rooted in isiZulu heritage and shaped by ancestral consciousness, the track asks a direct question: what would I be if I were not Zulu? The answer unfolds through rhythm, poetry and intention.

For Magz, born Melusi Shezi, the record reflects years of artistic growth and a deepening connection to purpose.

Known for releases such as “S’cel’indlela” and his EP “Organised Chaos", Magz has built a reputation for balancing technical discipline with emotional meaning. He said that the creation of this record carried a rare sense of ease.

“After many years of making music, ‘Ngangoba Yini’ came together effortlessly. Technically, everything fell into place, and creatively it became one of the most enjoyable records that I have worked on,” said Magz.

He explained that his goal has always extended beyond production.

“Music is not just about sound. It is about connection. It is about reminding people of who they are and where they come from,” he said. “This record speaks to lineage and belonging.”

Shezy, born Nhlanhla Shezi, makes a defining entrance with the single, marking her first official release after years of shaping her voice behind the scenes.

Known for sets rooted in Afro tribal and 3-Step, her approach carries narrative and cultural intention. She described the collaboration as both creative and personal.

“I’m blessed to have collaborated with someone who shares the same values, culture and respect for where we come from,” she said. “This record is my introduction, but it is also my statement. It reflects my truth.”

Shezy added that the song is grounded in pride.

“When you know your roots, you move differently. You create with clarity. ‘Ngangoba Yini’ is about honouring that truth.”

Adding cultural weight to the track is Ingcweti Iklwa Lasosuthu, also known as Bee of the Kings, a respected imbongi whose work carries the memory of the Zulu history.

His voice brings ancestral presence to the production, linking past and present through oral tradition. His contribution reinforces the song’s reference to King Sgandana kaZokufa, anchoring the record in legacy.

Through layered Afrotech rhythms and restrained lyricism, the collaboration becomes more than a club release. It stands as a cultural expression shaped by shared Shezi lineage and respect for ancestry.

The artists view the record as part of a larger mission.

“This is not just about us,” said Magz. “It is about honouring those who came before us and ensuring their voices continue through our work.”
