Durban is set to host one of the country’s biggest music events as the 2026 Metro FM Music Awards arrive on April 25 at the Durban International Convention Centre.

The ceremony will bring together leading voices in South African music for a night that celebrates both achievement and influence.

For fans who will not be inside the venue, the radio station has partnered with Executive Concerts to host a public viewing festival at Moses Mabhida Stadium, specifically at People’s Park.

The outdoor event is expected to draw large crowds and extend the awards experience beyond the main stage.

The ceremony will be hosted by award-winning actor Lawrence Maleka alongside media personality Lerato Kganyago

Maleka said, “Let’s make it a memorable one,” as anticipation builds.

Kganyago reflected on her return, saying, “It’s funny, the last time I was at the Metro FM Music Awards in Durban, I was not part of Metro FM. I had just joined SABC. I was doing a show called The Link on SABC, so it’s a full circle. I’m back again.

"I’m going to be on the black carpet, but also hosting, so I’m very excited about it.”

Metro FM business manager Kina Nhlengethwa said, “The theme combines the best of African luxury and global style, creating an unforgettable experience that’s both nostalgic and forward thinking. It represents the station’s iconic journey of excellence.”

The festival line-up reflects the range of local music, with artists such as Young Stunna, Babalwa M, DJ Tira, Lamiez Holworthy, Khuzani, Big Nuz and Dlala Thukzin set to perform.

Hosting duties at the festival will be led by Somizi Mhlongo, Tbo Touch and Sizwe Mdlalose, guiding audiences through a night that celebrates the sound and culture of Mzansi.
