The Sjava 10 Year Celebration Tour proved why he remains one of the most respected voices in local music.

“Sjava is definitely the man that he thinks he is,” summed up the feeling in the room after a powerful night at the Durban International Convention Centre.

Although he was scheduled to take the stage at 6pm, Sjava did not appear until 7pm. The delay did little to dampen the mood, as the audience was rewarded with a performance that justified the anticipation.

The evening opened with maskandi artist Nkeshemba, who set a strong foundation. He was followed by Nathi Mankayi, who performed crowd favourites including “Nomvula" and “Imimoya”.

When Sjava finally stepped on stage, the crowd responded with loud cheers and applause. He moved through his catalogue with ease, taking fans from early work like “Isina Muva” to the success of “Isibuko”.

His performance reflected his ability to blend traditional Zulu influences with hip hop and R&B, creating music that connects with audiences.

The show also featured collaborations that added depth to the experience.

Saudi joined him for “Abangani” and “Baba”, while Beast appeared for “Hello”. Big Zulu also took to the stage and, as Inkabi Zezwe, they performed “Umbayimbayi” and “Sayona”.

A standout moment came when he performed “Ngafa" alongside Shwi. Nontokozo Mkhize added a spiritual element with her gospel set.

Sjava’s presence on stage, his cultural expression and the emotional weight of his music made the concert memorable.

Audiences in upcoming cities can expect a full journey through his catalogue, with live collaborations and strong crowd engagement. They can also expect a show rooted in culture, with moments that balance celebration and reflection.

Remaining tour dates include May 1, in Middelburg at Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall, June 15, in Pretoria at SunBet Arena, and October 23, in Johannesburg at Carnival City.
