Music lovers across South Africa have been left disappointed as a series of anticipated live shows have been postponed, affecting fans who had been looking forward to seeing Zakes Bantwini, Nontokozo Mkhize and De Rose take to the stage.

Bantwini confirmed that the Mayonie Open Air Durban event scheduled for April 26 will no longer take place as planned.

He explained that the decision was made out of respect for the Metro FM Music Awards weekend.

“We’d like to inform you that the Mayonie Open Air Durban on April 26 will be postponed. As this weekend holds significant cultural importance with the Metro FM Music Awards, we believe it is important to honour and support this moment within the industry rather than overlap with it,” he said.

He added that Metro FM’s Love Movement event is set for the same day.

“We feel it would not be in the spirit of Mayonie to compete with such a celebrated occasion. We have therefore made the decision to step back in full respect of Metro FM, one of South Africa’s most beloved radio institutions, and to give their weekend the space it deserves,” Bantwini said.

He confirmed that a new date will be announced and that refunds are available.

Beyond the postponement, Bantwini has taken on a major role at the awards. As the musical director for the 2026 edition, he is responsible for shaping the ceremony's sound.

He said that his approach is to create a musical journey that honours the roots of South African music while celebrating its current evolution.

Mkhize also addressed fans after postponing her concert that was set to take place on April 10 at the Wild Coast.

“We regret to inform you that the Nontokozo Mkhize Live in Concert has been postponed to August 15, 2026, due to unforeseen circumstances. This decision was not taken lightly,” she said.

She added that the change was unavoidable. “Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have made it impossible to proceed with the event as planned. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause.”

Ticket holders can either keep their tickets for the new date or exchange them for her Durban show on June 13 at The Playhouse.

Rose’s team also confirmed that her Durban homecoming show in Umlazi, scheduled for May 2, has been postponed.

“We were forced to make this difficult decision due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. We understand the excitement surrounding this event and want to assure fans that it will be rescheduled,” the statement read.

Refunds will be issued to those who request them.

The postponements came shortly after she released her debut hip hop single “Easy”, featuring Blue Papi, Lowfeye and Frank Mabeat.

Speaking about the track, she said, “The song is about how lies only make things worse. To me, it is a story every Kasi girl should hear. Watch out, he is not who he says he is.”
