South African music royalty Mi Casa is teaming up with the award-winning lordkez to headline the 2026 season launch of Old Mutual Music at the Lake.

The concert series is making its grand return this winter, kicking things off with a special Father’s Day edition on Sunday, June 21, at the Durban Botanic Gardens.

The multi-award-winning trio, comprising the soulful vocals of J'Something, the slick trumpet styling of Mo-T and the production genius of Dr Duda, has been dominating global airwaves for over a decade.

Fresh off the back of their latest hits, like "Ter Mais", the group is currently in the middle of a massive international touring schedule that bridges South Africa with upcoming European dates in London, Amsterdam and Dublin.

Known for their infectious Afro-Latina and deep house grooves, they are ready to turn the gardens into a full-blown celebration. Attendees can expect a masterclass in live performance packed with signature hits, fan favorites and pure energy.

Joining them to bring the ultimate contrast is lordkez, the genre-fluid powerhouse who is rapidly redefining the alternative R&B and neo-soul scene across the continent.

Known for her deeply poetic delivery and cinematic visuals, lordkez has been on an absolute tear since winning the South African Music Award (Sama) for Best R&B/Soul Album for her masterpiece "Testament".

Hot off major milestones like her debut at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and the massive chart success of her single "Aweh" (and its hit remix featuring Cassper Nyovest), she represents the absolute vanguard of the new wave of African artistry.

Her performance will draw heavily from her recent project "You, Me & The 90's", serving up a blend of smooth throwback textures, future-facing sounds and husky, emotive vocals that will captivate the crowd and elevate the whole afternoon.

Picture this: link up by the scenic lake, lay out the blankets and soak up the winter sun.

It’s the perfect blend of top-tier local talent and laid-back picnic energy. Because it’s Father’s Day, it’s the perfect excuse to spoil the father figures in your life.

Pack your picnic baskets, cooler boxes, blankets and camping chairs for an unforgettable day out.

Good music, better cause

By purchasing a ticket, you’re also supporting the Garden Window Project, a community-driven initiative run by the Durban Botanic Gardens Trust.

It is designed to turn Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden into more than just a beautiful place to look at trees; it makes the space an active engine for social ecology, environmental justice and community empowerment.

The initiative uses the gardens as a living classroom to teach locals and visitors about the critical relationship between people and plants.

At its heart, the project believes that vulnerable city residents deserve ecologically progressive assistance.

By funding this initiative through events like the Music at the Lake series, the Trust supports programs that give marginalised individuals a purpose and a livelihood, such as training people to manage local community food gardens, which in turn supply produce to local businesses and help fight poverty.

Gather your friends, prepare your picnic and let’s launch the winter concert season in style!
