“Wrong place, wrong time” - that is what everyone is saying on social media following a viral clip of Robot Boii and a few others doing a skhothane stunt during the MaXhosa Africa’s fashion show in Paris.

The group was seen pouring the delicious dessert called Ultra Mel on a MaXhosa carpet, with a few attendees clearly taken aback by the act, while others cheered as they proceeded to dance during the act.

The clip had many appalled on social media, with many saying that these types of things are supposed to be done here at home, not during the Paris Fashion Show.

However, that act was actually a part of the concept of the fashion show, according to the brand.

Taking to Instagram, the brand explained that the collection is titled “Siyi’Kulture and it is a fusion of many cultural references from SA.

“This collection is titled SIYI’KULTURE, which is a blend of many cultural and subcultural  references from mainly South Africa and some parts of the African continent."

“The collection is an assertive curation showcase of how African culture is stamping a growing influence in world music, dance and soon fashion,” they captioned the post.

For those who do not know, izikhothane (or skhothane) is a term referring to a group of fashionably dressed black urban teenagers known for engaging in destructive conspicuous consumption.

Typically, izikhothane gather during the weekends and engage in mock battles that include the destruction of luxury items as a sign of wealth and a display of status or swag.

Ultra Mel, along with expensive alcohol being poured on the ground, became a known or popular act that they do during the mock battles.

Since the clip went viral on X, many shared how unimpressed they were with the act.

@N_Mangethe commented: “I don’t see how this is in line with the brand identity. Secondly, have you ever seen a skhothane in Maxhosa? These 2 worlds have never merged before this disastrous moment. Maybe if they’d brought in the true owners of the culture, it would have landed better.”

@tlalane wrote: “Yho, the custard stunt at Paris Fashion Week, ke embarrassed.”

While @kgotsana added: “This was hard to watch.”
