About 30 shacks were razed to the ground on Wednesday evening in Reservoir Hills, Durban.

eThekwini Disaster Management spokesman Malcolm Canham said about 70 residents from the Pemary Road informal settlement were displaced.

He said the cause of the blaze had not yet been established.

“Firefighters managed to contain the blaze quite quickly and temporary shelters were put up to house those affected.”

Canham said the local community also assisted and blankets and food parcels were distributed to those who lost their homes in the incident.
