Police are on the lookout for a man who was part of a gang that robbed a Spar Supertrade store in Richards Bay, north of KZN.

It's believed five men entered the store at about 9am on Monday, with two of the men dressed in Spar uniforms.

KZN police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the two men, posing as employees, went up to the manager's office and demanded cash.

Thereafter, the gang fled the store to an awaiting getaway vehicle.

Zwane said after police had been notified of the incident, patrolling officers spotted a suspicious looking man driving a Mazda 323 in the Madonela area.

He said when officers attempted to get the driver to stop his vehicle, he sped away and police gave chase.

During the chase, the driver overturned his vehicle and crashed.

Four occupants in the car were arrested, while one of them fled.

Zwane said two firearms were also found in the car.

Zwane said the men are between the ages of 30 to 48.

The arrested suspects were expected to appear in the Ubombo Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

They would be charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and armed robber. - IOL
