Police have arrested two men in connection with the death of a 45-year-old school teacher, in Ntambanana, in northern KZN.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the teacher, Velephi Biyela was on her way to school on Monday morning when two men, aged 21 and 25, hijacked her.
“Whilst on route she was approached by two men who forced her out of her vehicle. One of the suspects produced a firearm and shot her,” Mdunge said in a statement.
The men then allegedly jumped into the vehicle and escaped.
Mdunge said a passerby found her lying on the road with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed her to the Ngwelezane hospital.
Sadly, medics pronounced Biyela dead on arrival.
Mdunge said investigating officers from the Ntambanana area immediately went on a manhunt and found the hijacked vehicle, as well as the suspects. A firearm was also found in the vehicle.
Both men are expected to appear at the Ngwelezane Magistrates' Court soon. They will be charged with murder, carjacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
