A MURDER case against a Durban woman who's accused of killing her daughter was postponed to give her time to consult with her lawyer.
Ncamisile Evarista Hlophe is facing a murder charge for the death of her 14-year-old daughter, Luvuyo Tafadzwe. It is alleged that the motive was to cash in on the funeral claim funds. Hlophe appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court.
Tafadzwe was dead on July 22 at Hlophe's property in KwaMashu. It is alleged Hlophe informed the police that her daughter had consumed pills for a headache, taken a nap and never woken up again.
However, Tafadzwe was found with a massive wound at the back of her head, and it appeared she had died on her bed. The wound was deep, and it appeared that she was stabbed with a very sharp object.
Neighbours had heard shrieking screams from the deceased but were unaware of what was going on. They became suspicious when they heard that the daughter had been killed.
Hlophe was arrested the following month. In an earlier court appearance the investigating officer revealed that Tafadzwe appeared to have been killed, and not because she had consumed headache tablets. The case is being handled by the Provincial Task Team.
At her last appearance, Hlophe looked confused. Her lawyer, Siya Mncube, told the court he needed time to communicate with her.
The magistrate agreed and emphasised the importance of consultation and the matter was postponed to May 19.
