FORD Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has announced a recall of nearly 2,900 EcoSport models built between April 2021 and July 2022 over safety concern.

FMCSA has identified that in the affected vehicles, the front half shafts may not have been fully inserted into the transmission during assembly, creating the potential for the half shaft to disengage from the transmission.

If the half shaft disengages, there is a possibility of loss of engine power while driving. It may also result in a vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in "Park" without the park brake being applied. Both conditions increase the risk of an accident.

The recall affects:

  • 2,806 vehicles in South Africa
  • 25 in Botswana
  • 41 in Namibia

FMCSA says they’re already reaching out to owners of the affected vehicles.

“Our commitment, together with our dealer partners, is to provide customers with the highest level of service and support.

If customers would like to check if their Ford vehicle is affected by this or any other recall, they can visit www.ford.co.za/owner/recalls/ and enter their VIN number in the search bar,” said Dudu Nxele, Communications Manager at Ford.

Customers can also contact Customer Relationship Resolution Centre directly at 0860 011 022 / +2712 843 5824 (international callers) or CRC3@ford.com in the event that they may have any queries regarding this customer service action.
