In our Sunday Tribune edition of 21 September 2025, a headline mistakenly referred to RMB as a result of an acronym confusion. We wish to make it clear that RMB had no connection whatsoever to the story concerned.
We take full responsibility for this serious error. As a publication, we are committed to accuracy and accountability, and we regret the reputational inconvenience caused to Rand Merchant Bank, as well as the confusion for our readers, subscribers, advertisers and stakeholders.
We have instructed a third-party online platform that published our front page story to take the story with the erroneous headline down.
Measures have already been put in place to strengthen editorial checks, particularly around acronym verification in headlines, to prevent such mistakes in future.
We extend our sincere apologies to RMB, our readers, and all those affected.
