KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has welcomed a landmark agreement with the Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, to establish a Public Protector office in Ulundi.
The office will be located in the historic Old Legislature Building and is expected to improve access to justice and accountability for rural communities.
The new office will serve residents in the districts of King Cetshwayo, Zululand, Umkhanyakude, Umzinyathi, and Amajuba.
The MEC says that the new offices in these areas will help ensure that citizens can access the vital services provided by the Office of the Public Protector without having to travel long distances.
MEC Buthelezi described the development as a progressive move to uphold the rights of communities and strengthen public service delivery.
“This initiative brings government closer to the people and reinforces our commitment to transparency and accountability,” said MEC Buthelezi.
The Public Protector’s office plays a critical role in investigating complaints against state institutions and promoting good governance. The establishment of this office in Ulundi reflects a shared commitment to serving all citizens, particularly those in rural areas.
