THe Advisory Panel chaired by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, convened this week to conclude the screening process of candidates for the role of National Director of Public Prosecutions.
Following decisions to broaden the candidate pool, a total of 32 applications were evaluated, demonstrating a commitment to identifying the most qualified individuals for this vital position within South Africa's justice system.
The recruitment process, spearheaded by the Legal Practice Council (LPC), sought to engage diverse law bodies to submit nominations, ensuring that the selection is not only comprehensive but also reflective of the country's commitment to upholding justice.
After thorough deliberations, the panel shortlisted six candidates who meet the stringent requirements necessary for overseeing the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The panel is preparing to inform the selected candidates about the next stages of the interview process while ensuring transparency throughout these crucial proceedings. Eager to shape the future of public prosecutions, the panel invites commentary from the public and legal institutions until December 5, 2025, via the designated secretariat email.
The interview phase is scheduled to take place between December 10 and 11, 2025. This pivotal selection will determine the next NDPP, who will be charged with steering South Africa's prosecutorial services amid the complex challenges that lie ahead.
