THE South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued two separate warnings for severe thunderstorms expected to lash parts of the country on Tuesday.

A Yellow Level 4 warning has been issued for Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and the southwestern and southeastern parts of Limpopo, where heavy downpours could lead to localised flooding, strong winds, and small hail.

Saws cautioned that the stormy conditions may result in damage to infrastructure, difficult driving conditions, and disruptions to outdoor activities.

A Yellow Level 2 warning is also in place for KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern and central Free State, North West, the northern parts of the Eastern Cape, central Limpopo, and the Mpumalanga Highveld. These areas may also experience localised flooding and severe thunderstorms, albeit with slightly lower impact.

Meanwhile, an extremely high fire danger warning has been issued for parts of the Northern Cape including the Khai-Ma, Hantam, and ZF Mgcawu municipalities, as well as the Matzikama, Bergrivier, and Swartland municipalities in the Western Cape.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow updates from local authorities.
