THE University of KwaZulu-Natal's student representative council (SRC) are calling upon the institution's alumni, corporate partners, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, and the broader community to support their trust fund fundraising campaign.
The SRC recently launched the 2026 SRC Trust Fund fundraising campaign and the money received will be used to help UKZN students who are struggling financially to pay their registration fees for the new academic year.
The Trust Fund was established to ensure young people who aspire to uplift themselves through education will not be lost in the pipeline due to financial constraints.
The objective of the campaign also aims to promote community and stakeholder participation in supporting student access to education.
A record number of 2001 students applied for assistance through the SRC Trust Fund this year, 286 more than the previous year.
The funds raised will be handled by the UKZN Foundation and directed towards the fee accounts of approved applicants, who are self-funded students unable to meet their registration costs.
Lonwabo Xolo, UKZN SRC treasurer general said: “Our commitment as an SRC to ensure that no student is left behind is overarched by the understanding that because we have the ability, the influence as well as the platform we must by all means do all that is in our power to liberate students from the shackles that prevent them from completing their journeys at University and with this campaign we are tackling financial exclusion as a barrier to education, head on.”
Contributions can be made through the UKZN Foundation website: https://foundation.ukzn.ac.za/
