Mokheseng Nqxulelo, 32, the widow of a slain police officer, made a brief appearance in the Aliwal North Magistrate Court on December 23, 2025, facing serious charges for the murder of her husband, who served as a sergeant in the Protection and Security Services (PSS).

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed that Nqxulelo was remanded in transit to Khayelitsha Court, where she is scheduled to appear again on December 29, 2025, to face the murder charge.

“The officer, who was the suspect’s husband, was shot and killed in his home in Harare. Her appearance comes after she was re-arrested in Jamestown in the Eastern Cape by members of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team,” Hani stated.

The tragic incident reportedly stemmed from an altercation between the couple in February 2023. According to Hani, “It is reported that in February 2023, the couple had an altercation. The family was also there at one stage but later left because they were arguing continuously. The wife reports that the deceased fetched his official firearm. She relays that she thought he wanted to shoot her, but he handed her the firearm and said she must fire a few rounds to release her anger.”

In a shocking turn of events, Nqxulelo then fired several rounds into the wall of their lounge, only to realise moments later that her husband was lying on the floor. “She then ran out to the neighbour for assistance. Her husband was taken to hospital for treatment where he died on arrival,” Hani explained.

The case was initially set to go to trial in June 2025 but was withdrawn due to issues with a witness who could not be traced. Hani added, “The matter was again discussed with the Director of Public Prosecutions. A decision was made to arrest and charge the accused again after a warrant of arrest was issued, which led to her re-arrest.”

As the legal proceedings unfold, the community watches closely, grappling with the implications of this tragic case involving a police officer and his widow.
