A PRESENTER of an uMhlanga-based radio station Gagasi FM has downplayed allegations of assault following an early morning Christmas Eve incident where he was demanding his children which had left with his wife when she allegedly vacated their marital home. The presenter last weekend sent a lobolo delegation to take a new wife.

A Gagasi FM presenter accused of assaulting a gardener at his wife’s friend’s home on Christmas Eve has stopped short of directly addressing the allegations, instead accusing the friend of interfering in his marriage.

The popular radio personality has not denied claims that he arrived at the home in the early hours of Christmas Eve demanding his children.

He is alleged to have sworn at family members and assaulting a gardener employed at the property.

According to the Sunday Tribune's sister publication, Isolezwe, the presenter’s wife had left their marital home with the children after he allegedly sent a lobolo delegation to another woman he had previously been in a relationship with.

Responding to criticism on social media, the presenter sought to downplay the incident, describing it as a “minor disturbance” that had been exaggerated because of his public profile.

“She is overly involved in the marriage of her friend. She has even recruited her mother. I was with the mother of my wife. They swore at her. It was actually a minor disturbance but because I’m famous, the matter has now even appeared in a newspaper,” he wrote early on Saturday, in response to a comment reacting to one of his Facebook posts.

In the post, the presenter reflected on how people can become extremely angry, prompting divided reactions from followers. Some argued that outsiders should not interfere in marital disputes, while others expressed disappointment in his conduct and called on him to apologise to the mother of his wife’s friend.

It was further alleged that the presenter repeatedly hooted at the gate after arriving unannounced, behaviour he has since downplayed, insisting it should not be equated to gender-based violence.

Police were reportedly called to the scene after the presenter refused to leave the premises.

In a video shared on Instagram, the wife’s friend accused the presenter of ruining their Christmas and expressed outrage at what she described as disrespect towards her mother.

She alleged that the presenter claimed the family could do nothing to stop him, because there was no male family member present.

“From his conduct and the words he used, it was obvious he knew exactly what he was doing. He knew he was walking into a female-led home, a house of women, and he counted on the fact that there would be no man coming out to face him man to man,” she wrote in the video he shared.

On Boxing Day, the presenter shared a video of himself spending time with his wife and some of his children at an event in a marquee, appearing to suggest that relations had improved.

Gagasi FM, the uMhlanga-based regional radio station, has not issued a statement regarding the allegations.
