A surge in online traffic driven by massive listener interest in Gagasi FM’s New Year’s Eve crossover show temporarily crashed the station’s streaming app, leaving many fans unable to tune in as 2025 rolled into 2026.

The special broadcast, which kicked off at 9pm on New Year’s Eve, was hosted by veteran broadcaster Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya alongside Selbeyonce, both former Ukhozi FM favourites whose crossover special had been highly anticipated by listeners.

The show was initially expected to also feature breakfast host Felix Hlophe, who was placed on two weeks’ leave earlier in the week to attend to personal matters that have dominated social media discussions since Christmas Eve.

As the hype intensified, listeners took to social media to complain that they could not access the station through the Gagasi FM app.

In a statement, the uMhlanga-based regional commercial station confirmed the technical difficulties and urged listeners to switch to its Facebook livestream while engineers worked to fix the problem.

“Our technical team is actively working to resolve the issue. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. In the meantime, we are live on the Gagasi FM Facebook page,” the station said.

Sibiya and Selbeyonce's crossover special later selected DJ Tira and CampMasters featuring General C’Mamane’s hit Awungazi as the official crossover track into 2026.

DJ Tira thanked supporters shortly after midnight, posting: “Awungazi… Uzongazi. Ngiyabonga. Happy New Year” (“You don’t know me… You will know me. Thank you. Happy New Year”).
