FORMER Bosasa chief operations officer, Angelo Agrizzi, provided crucial testimony via video link on Friday in the corruption case involving businessman Trevor Mathenjwa, which is currently being heard in the High Court in Johannesburg.

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced that the state has successfully led its evidence in chief through Agrizzi, who previously held the position of chief operations officer at Bosasa.

The NPA’s IDAC has now completed presenting its evidence in chief through Agrizzi and four other key witnesses. Following this, the defence has commenced cross-examination of Agrizzi.

The case has been postponed until 7 April 2026 for the continuation of this cross-examination.

Mathenjwa faces serious corruption charges linked to Bosasa, with the alleged bribe amounting to approximately R600,000. The state claims that this money was offered and received from Bosasa and its subsidiary, Sondolo IT, where Mathenjwa serves as a director, in exchange for upgrading security systems at the residence of the late Dudu Myeni.

“The NPA’s IDAC has completed leading its evidence in chief on Agrizzi and four other key witnesses. Meanwhile, the defence has started its cross-examination of Agrizzi on his testimony," IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame remarked,

Agrizzi's testimony is particularly significant as it comes in the context of his own plea agreement with the State.

In November, IOL reported that the former Bosasa executive entered into a plea and sentencing agreement, admitting to charges of corruption and money laundering related to Bosasa’s controversial contracts with the Department of Correctional Services.

At that time, Agrizzi also appeared virtually before the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, using an oxygen machine due to ongoing health issues.

The court accepted the plea and sentencing agreement, effectively concluding his long-standing criminal case.

Agrizzi is a central figure in the broader Bosasa corruption saga, having previously provided extensive evidence implicating senior politicians and officials in bribery linked to government contracts.

The Mathenjwa case is part of the NPA’s ongoing prosecutions stemming from corruption during the state capture era.
