DStv has unveiled an innovative payment feature on the MyDStv App that enables users to share the cost of their subscription with friends or family members.

This new feature allows the primary account holder to send a payment link to another person, facilitating the division of the monthly subscription bill between two users. This reflects the reality of shared living arrangements, where subscription costs are often split among households, making cost-sharing simpler and more transparent.

“What matters now is how DStv fits into people’s lives month after month,” says Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice, the broadcasting service licensee.

“We want customers to have options that make it easier to stay connected, even when budgets are tight.”

In addition to this cost-splitting feature, DStv has enhanced its Access package by permanently adding three new channels: Trace Ngoma (formerly Trace Africa), Trace Gospel, and WWE. These additions broaden the mix of music, faith, and live entertainment available on one of DStv’s most affordable packages, ensuring that customers who opt to manage costs by remaining on Access continue to receive a quality service that meets their needs.

DStv has also maintained a lower upfront cost for hardware, including a promotional price for the entry-level HD decoder set at R499 (R799 installed), alongside significant reductions of up to 57% on Explora decoders.

This pricing strategy aims to eliminate hardware as a barrier for customers, whether they are new to DStv, replacing old equipment, adding an extra TV, or reconnecting after a break.

As part of the broader DStv Rewards programme, the option to pay DStv subscriptions using DStv Coins, which launched in October 2025, continues to gain traction. Since its introduction, customers have redeemed over 20 million DStv Coins to offset their subscription costs through both full and hybrid Coins-and-cash payments.

This feature provides customers with greater flexibility in managing their monthly subscriptions and reinforces the Rewards programme as an ongoing benefit rather than a one-off promotion.
