KwaZulu‑Natal police are appealing to the public for assistance in tracking down Syethemba Khubone, also known as “Sinkwa”, who is wanted in connection with multiple murders committed in the Creighton area in the Midlands.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, Khubone has been positively linked to several violent crimes, including the 2015 shooting of a woman in her early 30s at Sappi Forest, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds and declared dead at the scene.
Netshiunda added that in August 2019, Khubone and an accomplice allegedly posed as police officers at a home in Ncakubana location before breaking a window and firing several shots at a 28‑year‑old man, who later died in hospital.
"Just after midnight on 19 August 2019, Syethemba and his accomplice went to a house at Ncakubana location and pretended to be police officers," said Netshiunda.
He added that when Khubone and his accomplice were at the occupant's residence posing as police, the occupant of the house refused to open; however, Syethemba broke the window and fired several shots at the 28-year-old man, who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Investigations have also tied him to a house robbery in which he and three accomplices allegedly impersonated police officers before robbing a victim of his firearm. The Ixopo Magistrate’s Court has since issued three warrants of arrest against him.
The KwaZulu-Natal police have also urged anyone with information about Khubone’s whereabouts to contact the Provincial Operational Command Centre on 079 500 1203, or relay anonymous tip‑offs via the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the My SAPS App.
