Police in Lamontville have arrested two suspects for cultivating dagga in a lab situated directly opposite a high school, raising concerns about drugs being accessible to learners.

POLICE in Lamontville have arrested two suspects after uncovering a fully operational marijuana (dagga) cultivation laboratory directly opposite a high school on Ngobese Road.
The suspects, aged 38 and 55, were arrested on Wednesday, February 25, and charged with cultivating and dealing in dagga.

Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said that the suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, February 26.
Magwaza revealed that the members of the Lamontville Social Crime Prevention Unit were conducting a routine school visit when they noticed suspicious activity at a nearby residence. Upon investigation, officers discovered that the occupants were allegedly selling dagga to learners.

"Further investigations into the house led to the discovery of a fully operational dagga cultivation laboratory," said Magwaza
The search in the property revealed a laboratory equipped with dagga plants, vacuum air purifiers, extractor fans, packaging containers, and an instruction board.
Police forensic experts were called to process the crime scene.
