The Caring Sisters Network (CSN) is prioritising meaningful giving with their innovative initiatives aimed at providing joy and hope to those in need.

Celebrating the spirit of Eid, CSN, a non-profit, humanitarian women’s organisation is holding two campaigns, the Eternal Reward Eid-ul-Fitr Gift Campaign and the Eid Smile Campaign, both designed to make a difference in the lives of many.

As many families embark on the tradition of purchasing Eid gifts, often leading to overspending and accumulation of unused items, CSN's “Eid Gift With a Difference” offers an alternative.

This year marks the 9th annual campaign aimed at making donations that leave a lasting legacy. For a minimum donation of R150, individuals can gift a loved one with the joy of contributing to a noble cause.

Each gift card represents a donation towards a borehole, a vital resource that will provide water to communities.

Chairperson of CSN Yasiera Mahomed Suliman said many people spend a lot on Eid gifts.

"Much valuable time goes into shopping for these gifts, whether in person or online. And very often, these are gifts that eventually end up on our recycling shelves.

"Instead a gift card in your recipients name will provide a continuous source of reward," said Suliman.

She said to date they have drilled 25 boreholes at schools, mosques and churches, where it is accessible to the community.

"We have had a few requests for boreholes. Water is a challenge everywhere daily," she said.

The organisation's 18th annual Eid Smile Gift Campaign, which began in 2008 with just 30 gifts, this year grew to 5700 gifts to children from financially challenged backgrounds in township madressas, crèches, and orphanages.

"Each pack was thoughtfully prepared and packaged last week Sunday to ensure a child feels remembered, valued, and celebrated on Eid morning.

The gift packs, sponsored by donors, include a school bag, a winter throw, a lunch box, juice bottle, stationery, and sweet treat packs.
