The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has issued a rallying cry to "patriotic citizens" to join a nationwide "People’s March" this Saturday, aimed at defending South Africa’s sovereignty against what it describes as rising foreign interference and disinformation.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the provincial wing of the party characterised the march as a stand against "imperialism", which it claims seeks to control the political and economic systems of weaker nations.
A Stand Against ‘Economic Coercion’
The ANC KZN expressed concern over what it views as a regressive world order where "might is always right."
The party highlighted several areas of concern where they believe external pressure is being applied to dictate South African policy, including:
Trade and Land Reform: Allegations of interference in critical development pathways.
Economic Sanctions: The use of financial pressure to influence domestic choices.
Disinformation Campaigns: Coordinated efforts to undermine democratic gains and public confidence.
"We will not be bullied!" the statement declared, echoing a sentiment recently championed by the party’s national leadership.
Human Rights Day Mobilisation
The march is strategically timed for Saturday, March 21, 2026, a day that marks Human Rights Day and commemorates 30 years since the adoption of the South African Constitution.
The KZN leg of the protest will be led by the ANC alongside its Tripartite Alliance partners, the SACP, COSATU, and SANCO. It will also be supported by various civil society, faith-based, and labour organisations.
The march is set for Human Rights Day on Saturday at 10:00am from the King Dinuzulu Statue from the Berea side of Dr Prixley KaSeme Street and ends at Albert Park, Durban.
The ANC confirmed that similar marches are scheduled to take place simultaneously in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and East London, forming part of a coordinated national effort to "protect the democratic project."
