Residents in parts of south Durban are experiencing a temporary water outage following vandalism at the Prospecton Water Pump Station, municipal officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The disruption has halted water pumping to the Athlone Park Reservoir after mechanical and electrical panels at the facility were damaged. As a result, several areas are currently without supply, including Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti, Umbogintwini and Orient Hills.

Technical teams from the municipality’s Water Services Directorate are on site carrying out repairs. Authorities say restoration work is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

The municipality has urged residents to report water-related issues through official channels. Members of the public can log faults via the eThekwini Municipality mobile app, send a WhatsApp message to 073 1483 477, call the toll-free number 080 311 1111, or email Eservices@durban.gov.za.

Officials have not yet indicated the extent of the damage or whether additional security measures will be implemented to prevent further incidents.
