The highly anticipated Legends Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, scheduled for Sunday, 29 March, at Moses Mabhida Stadium, has been cancelled, city officials confirmed.

The eThekwini Municipality, in a statement, said that according to the event organisers the decision followed challenges beyond their control, despite efforts to stage the exhibition match.

“Despite our unwavering commitment and extensive efforts to bring this historic and nostalgic event to life, we have encountered circumstances beyond our control that have made it impossible to proceed as planned,” the organisers said.

The fixture had been billed as a showcase of former stars from South Africa’s two biggest football clubs, drawing significant interest from supporters.

Ticket holders will receive full refunds through Ticketpro, the event’s official ticketing partner.
