The Durban entertainment and tourism community is in mourning following the official confirmation of the passing of Kwazikwakhe “Stix” Zulu, a prominent figure in the Durban creative economy.
The Zulu and Ndlovu families released a statement confirming that the beloved music producer, events organiser, and entrepreneur passed away on Tuesday, March 31. Known affectionately by his nickname "Stix," Zulu was a central pillar of the Clermont community.
He owned and operated Stixzet Outdoors, a popular lifestyle lounge that also functioned as an events organiser and served as a hub for local artists and socialites alike.
Stix Zulu was widely respected for his multifaceted contributions to the KwaZulu-Natal arts scene. His career spanned several critical sectors of the industry.
As a producer, Zulu was known for his keen ear and ability to nurture local talent, helping shape the "Durban Sound" that has gained national recognition.
Through his lifestyle lounge in Clermont, he created a space that combined hospitality with cultural expression, providing a platform for live performances and community gatherings.
Zulu was a seasoned organiser, responsible for executing high-profile events and festivals that drove tourism and entertainment revenue within the province.
Many small business owners in Clermont posted their testimonies about his unwavering support, and encouraging them not to give up when the going got tough. Zulu was responsible for many shows in Clermont that featured prominent artists like DJ Tira, Tzozo, Msawawa and many others.
He was also involved in the tourism sector in within the Clermont KwaDabeka Tourism Development and was part of Kasi 2 Kasi Edutainment Tours, founded by one of Clermont's enterpreneurs, Lwazi Nqetho, a concept meant to stimulate township tourism.
The family’s statement expressed the deep "immeasurable loss" felt by his siblings, children, and extended kin.
"His presence, his spirit, and his impact will never be forgotten," the announcement read, describing him as a "cherished father" and "beloved brother."
Since the news broke, tributes have poured in across social media from business partners, artists, and fans who frequented his venue. Many have credited Zulu with being a mentor who provided professional opportunities in an often-volatile industry.
