A man is in a critical condition after being entrapped when a sand bank collapsed at a construction site in Ballito on Wednesday

Emergency services responded swiftly to a serious incident at a construction site in Ballito on Wednesday morning, after a sand bank collapsed and trapped a worker beneath the debris.
According to reports, teams from IPSS Medical Rescue and IPSS Search and Rescue arrived on scene to find the man still alive but in critical condition. Advanced Life Support paramedics immediately began administering urgent medical care while rescue teams worked to safely extricate him.
The operation required a coordinated effort between multiple agencies, including IPSS personnel, the KDM Fire Department, and construction workers at the site. Rescuers spent over an hour carefully removing sand and stabilising the area to prevent further collapse.
Once freed, the injured man was stabilised at the scene before being transported to a specialist medical facility in Durban for further treatment.
