Maximum police resources have been mobilised to huntdown a group of brazen criminals who killed a crime intelligence officer and critically wounded his colleague on Flanders Drive in Mount Edgecombe on Thursday afternoon.
The South African Police Service has launched an intensive manhunt for the heavily armed suspects.
According to SAPS Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, maximum resources have been mobilised to track down the suspects involved in the brazen incident.
The police officer who was driving a state vehicle at the time, succumbed to gunshot wounds. A second officer who was also wounded in the shooting was airlifted to hospital.
Police have described the incident as a serious escalation, prompting a coordinated response from multiple specialised units.
Crime intelligence operatives, detectives, the organised crime unit, and other highly trained officers have been deployed to locate and apprehend those responsible.
Lieutenant General Dimpane strongly condemned the attack, characterising it as an assault on both law enforcement and the authority of the state.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” said Dimpane.
