Media personality and public relations consultant Diolan Govender is set to make a guest appearance on Uzalo, airing on SABC 1 tonight, May 1.
The 23-year-old from Durban will take on the role of Lee, a Durban-based sous chef who specialises in Chinese cuisine.
Uzalo is a provocative, bold and authentic soap opera, set in KwaMashu in KwaZulu-Natal. It follows the story of two family dynasties, the Mdletshes and the Xulus.
“Being part of Uzalo is a dream come true. It’s a show that has such a strong cultural footprint in South Africa, and to step into that world, even briefly, is incredibly meaningful for me.”
“For me, it’s about growth. Opportunities like this show what’s possible when you stay consistent and true to your voice,” said Govender.
Govender is recognised for his role on YOtv where he presented the music show Party Friyay and Netflix’s Miseducation.
He said he would love to see his role as the chef on the telenovela expand as the story unfolds, but his role is currently limited to a single episode.
Govender added that although acting opened the door to presenting, it is presenting that he is most passionate about.
"My eye has been set on becoming the biggest media personality in the world to come out of South Africa," said Govender. Nomfundo Zondi, head of communications at Stained Glass TV said Uzalo has always been intentional about creating a world that feels familiar, exciting and reflective of the many voices that make up South Africa.
"Bringing Diolan Govender into this special episode adds a fresh layer to that vision. His presence is a celebration of new-generation talent, and we are pleased to welcome him to a show that has remained a dominant force on local screens for years," said Zondi.
Uzalo will air on SABC 1 at 8.30pm.
