SAPS General Fannie Masemola is reportedly set to face criminal charges in a widening corruption scandal tied to a tainted R360-million SAPS health services tender, awarded to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Masemola was allegedly served with a warrant on Wednesday to compel his court appearance, which is scheduled for April 21.

The dramatic move follows a sweeping crackdown by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, which has already arrested 12 police officers linked to the deal.

Those detained include senior figures Brigadier Rachel Matjeng, General Temba, Brigadier Kistey Jonker, and Brigadier Ofentse Tlhoaele.

They face serious allegations ranging from fraud and money laundering to violations of the Finance Act.

In a parallel development, former senior officer Brigadier Petunia Lenono has also been arrested. Lenono resigned just weeks before the controversial tender was awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane—a timing now under intense scrutiny.

At the center of the scandal is businessman Vusimusi 'Cat' Matlala, whose links to the multimillion-rand contract have triggered a far-reaching investigation into alleged corruption and procurement irregularities within the police service.

Authorities say the arrests mark only the beginning, as investigators tighten the net around what could become one of the most significant corruption cases to hit South Africa’s law enforcement leadership in years.
