Magasela Mzobe has stepped down as the MK Party’s head of the Presidency.

Multiple insiders told IOL that Mzobe’s resignation follows a fallout with party leader Jacob Zuma, intensifying scrutiny over instability in the MKP’s leadership.

“This might have been the reason for him to resign,” a source said, pointing to growing internal friction.

Another senior official described a broader pattern of discord.

“There have been multiple fallouts in the leadership, not necessarily with Mzobe, but across the board. This is why we’ve seen figures like Colleen Makhubele and Floyd Shivambu stepping down,” the official said.

Mzobe, however, has publicly downplayed the tensions. In a report by EWN, he said his decision was driven by a desire to focus on his football club, Newcastle All Stars FC, and expanding sports ventures.

A staunch Zuma loyalist, Mzobe has long cast himself as the party leader’s “eyes, ears and hands,” making his departure from such a central role all the more striking.

IOL has reached out to the MKP for comment, which will add one received.

However, according to the report, MKP confirmed his resignation but declined to provide reasons, fuelling speculation about internal fractures at a critical moment for the organisation.

Despite stepping down, Mzobe will remain within the party as head of international relations.
