Suspended brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu is testifying before the Madlanga Commission, where allegations have linked him to interference in the murder case of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

A top cop in Sedibeng District, Nkhwashu, now finds himself at the centre of a widening investigation into possible manipulation of a murder probe.

Witnesses B and C told the commission he attempted to take control of critical case dockets, allegedly invoking instructions from Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni—claims investigators say were unfounded.

Evidence before the commission includes a recorded phone call in which Nkhwashu is heard urging investigators to hand over the docket.

He later backed down, reportedly admitting to the investigating officer that he had become a “suspect” in the matter.

The inquiry also heard testimony about a controversial prison visit.

Nkhwashu allegedly arrived after hours in a vehicle without registration plates to see the accused Katiso “KT” Molefe.

Claiming to be a relative, a statement Molefe rejected, he reportedly attempted to deliver food and clothing.

Following the mounting allegations, Nkhwashu was suspended from his post as Deputy District Commissioner of Sedibeng.
