Eastern Cape and KZN brace for more disruptive rains and gale winds
Residents living in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal are urged to brace for more rain and damaging winds on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A Yellow Level 1 warning for disruptive rain has been issued for the Eastern Cape.
"Disruptive rain is expected due to an upper air trough or cut-off low combined with a ridging surface high. Localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas is expected in the Nelson Mandela Metro, Sundays River Valley, Ndlambe, Makana, Ngqushwa, Raymond Mhlaba, Enoch Mgijima (Queenstown), Intsika, Yethu, Emalahleni, Sakhisizwe, Elundini Umzimbuvu and Ntabankulu local municipalities on Tuesday.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snow has also been issued. Impacted areas are; Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi district municipalities as well as Dr Beyers Naude, Blue Crane Route, Raymond Mhlaba, Matatiele and Umzimvubu local municipalities.
A Yellow Level 2 alert for damaging winds has been issued for KZN, with strong south-westerly winds expected.
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) said already several homes were damaged by the inclement weather.
Fire Services attended to at least two homes that caught alight following a thunderstorm.
In Phoenix, a woman was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and also anxiety attack following after her house caught alight.
KZN VIP's Gareth Naidoo said fire fighters arrived on scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.
In Manor Gardens, a unit caught alight. No injuries were reported and the blaze was quickly put out.
