It's at the historic venue of City Park that Primrose hope to regain their Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Super League B status after finishing third in their Super League C campaign.

Roses reached the semi-final stage in their quest for promotion after beating Young Peoples of Paarl 26-21 in a tense quarter-final encounter. They will now face Goodwood in the semi-final while Atlantis will face off against Macassar in the other semi.

Under Ricky Petersen, who took over the coaching reins this season, the side have everything to play for as the winner of both semi-finals will gain automatic promotion to the Super League B.

But while Primrose’s hopes remained alive for promotion, Hamediehs season came to an end when they went down by 41-35 to Van der Stel /Evergreens in a Super League B encounter played at the Van der Stel sports complex in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

Van der Stel will take on Kraaifontein while Franschhoek will come up against the University of the Western Cape.

While it’s the end of the road for his side’s hopes of winning promotion, Hashiem Samsodien, coach of Hamediehs, pointed to the gains made this season.

“I’m ecstatic the way the season went for us. I never thought we would be among the teams vying for a place in the play-offs. But we did against all odds. Now for a rest and then back to the drawing board,” said Samsodien.
