While much of the focus of races like the Two Oceans Marathon tends to focus on the title contenders, an athlete like Busisiwe Chamane will have her own lofty goals for the 21.1km race.
Chamane has notched up three successive top-10 finishes since 2023, and will be determined to make it four in the 2026 Two Oceans Half Marathon.
The Hollywood Athletics Club runner is also in good form, having just won the Balwin Run Series Dolphin Coast Half Marathon in a time of 1:18:57 in Durban over the weekend.
It means she is rounding into form nicely ahead of the race in Cape Town on April 12, especially since the conditions should be better for running.
“I think I love the atmosphere more than anything,” said Chamane. “The environment is so amazing. I love everything about Two Oceans, especially the weather because it’s almost like Durban, but the humidity is lower in Cape Town.”
Speaking about the Dolphin Coast Half Marathon, Shaman said: “The race started well, and I was running at my target race pace until about 15km when I felt a slight strain on my hamstring, which forced me to slow down a little bit. At least I managed to push and win the race.”
Given her recent success, there’s every chance to believe that the Ethekwini Municipality employee could produce more than a top-10 at the Two Oceans Marathon.
The 56km race will take centre stage a day before the half, with all eyes on Gerda Steyn as she lines up as the heavy favourite and gunning for her seventh title in a row.
