PSL flagbearers Orlando Pirates have confirmed their participation in The Soccer Tournament (TST) 2026 in Cary, North Carolina, from May 27 to June 1.
This groundbreaking announcement resonates across the football landscape, marking the first foray by an African club into this high-profile 7-a-side tournament. It demonstrates Pirates’ commitment to expanding their global footprint.
The TST will see 48 men’s teams compete for a winner-takes-all prize of $1 million (approximately R18.5 million). The tournament will kick off with a group stage, leading into knockout rounds to crown the champion.
Already, the tournament has attracted household names from around the globe, including Mexican giants Club América and Spanish LaLiga powerhouse Villarreal, as well as a host of other intriguing competitors such as KRÜ FC and Boca Juniors. For Pirates, competing in TST represents a monumental opportunity.
They will not only showcase their talents on an international stage but also highlight the richness of African football history and culture.
“For Orlando Pirates, participation in TST represents far more than just a football tournament," stated Pirates Marketing Manager, Sindi Sibisi.
"It provides the Club with an opportunity to showcase the Buccaneers brand on a global stage, engage with new audiences and supporters across the world, and further cement its ambition of expanding the reach of the Club beyond the African continent.”
The stakes are high in a tournament that has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting new fixtures in the international football calendar. In addition to the men’s competition, the 2026 edition of TST will unveil a 16-team women’s tournament beginning on 28 May, as well as the inaugural Mixed Competition, promising a varied and dynamic football experience for fans and participants alike.
Orlando Pirates will announce its squad of 16 players shortly after the conclusion of the Betway Premiership season on May 23.
