Kaizer Chiefs attacking forward Lebohang Maboe said Saturday night's draw against Polokwane City was not the result they wanted.
Kaizer Chiefs took home a single point in the league at a moment where they needed every one. Goals would have also been difficult to come by for both teams on the night, given how hot their goalkeepers were.
In what was a fairly contested first half proved fruitless for both teams, but Chiefs escaped by a narrow margin in the second half after Polokwane started building pressure.
Maboe was still a star performer, cutting through the Polokwane midfield and sometimes even their defence at times.
But the player of the match award was clearly not enough for the Chiefs midfielder, who wanted the win.
"These were not the results we wanted but we playing away from home so we knew it was going to be a difficult game. We are just going to have to settle for the point. We knew they going to play their game with those long balls.
"I think we came here well prepared but just didn't create enough opportunities. But at the same time we can't be ungrateful and have to take the point, " Maboe said.
Polokwane's attacking statistics in the second half suggested they got the better of AmaKhosi, but also couldn't find the back of the net.
Chiefs will remain in 3rd position on 46 points, making it even more difficult for AmaZulu to play CAF football next season. If Chiefs hold the 3rd position in the league, they qualify for CAF Confederation cup, which is likely all they can achieve given the gap to the top two.
But the lack of goals against Polokwane City just added a little more pressure to the Chiefs outfit with six games left.
"We really had to score in this game but we didn't. But a big respect to my teammates because we fought very hard. We just need to keep demanding more from ourselves.
"There's another big game next week which we looking forward to but for now we got to go home, regroup and see what we didn't do right and rectify those mistakes," Maboe added.
