Sekhukhune United have already shown this season that they know how to hurt Kaizer Chiefs — and they now have another opportunity to disrupt Amakhosi’s push for CAF football.
The two sides meet at a critical point of the Betway Premiership season with continental qualification pressure beginning to intensify around Chiefs.
While Amakhosi remain inside the top three, recent dropped points have slightly reopened the race for CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
That has increased the significance of every remaining fixture, particularly against direct competitors like Sekhukhune.
And Babina Noko will arrive carrying confidence from the reverse fixture.
Sekhukhune secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Chiefs earlier this season, exposing defensive vulnerabilities and overpowering Amakhosi in key moments of the match.
That result carried even greater significance considering Babina Noko also handed Chiefs their first defeat of the campaign after Amakhosi had opened the season strongly with four victories and a draw.
At that stage, Chiefs appeared to be building genuine momentum before Sekhukhune abruptly disrupted it.
That performance reinforced how competitive this fixture has become in recent years.
Across the last five meetings between the clubs, Chiefs have managed only two victories, while Sekhukhune have claimed one win alongside two draws. More importantly, most of those encounters have been emotionally charged and physically demanding rather than tactically open contests.
That style may suit Sekhukhune once again.
The Limpopo side have built a reputation for making matches uncomfortable against bigger clubs through aggressive pressing, direct football and physical intensity.
Chiefs have improved in handling those situations recently, particularly against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, but consistency remains a lingering concern.
Sekhukhune themselves still have plenty to play for.
Although their hopes of finishing inside the top three have faded slightly following inconsistent recent results, they remain mathematically alive in the race and could significantly alter the complexion of the standings with a victory.
Their recent form also suggests they are still capable of competing strongly.
Despite changes in the technical team following the departure of Eric Tinkler, Sekhukhune have remained resilient and difficult to break down in recent outings under interim coach Paulus Masehe.
For Chiefs, the pressure is beginning to grow beyond this season alone.
CAF qualification is increasingly viewed internally as a crucial objective, especially with uncertainty surrounding the futures of co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Ben Khalil Youssef beyond the current campaign.
And that is what makes this fixture dangerous for Amakhosi.
Because Sekhukhune are not just chasing points anymore.
They are chasing the chance to disrupt Chiefs’ season all over again.
