Naypyidaw - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held talks with the head of Myanmar's military junta Friday, an AFP correspondent said, after the UN chief said he would press for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi.

"This is my second time in your country and I am very pleased to continue our discussions," Ban said in his opening statement to Senior General Than Shwe as they met in the remote capital Naypyidaw.

"I appreciate your commitment to move your country forward.... I would like to contribute, to work together, for peace and prosperity," he added.
