Cape Town - The community of Bo-Kaap in the heart of Cape Town is buzzing with excitement as the date for the world-famous Red Bull Box Cart Race draws nearer.
Cape Town residents, go-karting fanatics and all adventurous souls are being called on to come and experience the race, which is set to take place on November 6 in the iconic Bo-Kaap.
Cape Town team Potjie Boytjies’ Stephen Walker said that come November 6, spectators will get to witness go-kart drivers take to the streets to be crowned the Red Bull Box Cart 2022 champions.
Walker said: “We’re so excited to be a part of the Red Bull Box Cart event and even just to work with Red Bull! Our team has been working hard on our performance and we can’t wait to put on a show for everyone.
“This exciting non-motorised race offers spectators an action-packed thrill like no other, as they get to witness carts go through the challenging slope like the track in the Bo-Kaap in Cape Town.
“Teams will have their driver skill and the craftsmanship of the box cart put to the test as one of the main sponsors, BFGoodrich, has added a twist to the track with a cobblestones obstacle for racers and spectators to enjoy,” Walker said.
Alongside the Potjie Boytjies, the Raging Bulls, the Date Night Team and the Brass Monkeys will join 31 teams that will be representing the Mother City in the raging competition, where they will be challenged to create non-motorised carts that can race down the Bo-Kaap slope the fastest.
The race will be judged by Red Bull MotorSport athlete Giniel de Villiers, Red Bull FORBes, Scarra Ntubeni, Courtnaé Paul and Nasty C, among others, and hosted by comedian Dalin Oliver alongside award-winning content producer Nadia Jaftha, with commentary by Brian Emmenis.
The judges for the event will be looking not only for speed, but also creative elements in the carts, said the organisers.
